Aims of the programme

The study program represents a synthetic interconnection of selected artistic types, which are amalgamated into a common concept of research in and creation of image-space. The aim of the study program is to train the student to be qualified — after successful completion of studies — for  independent artistic creation, engagement, and operation. With the study programme, the student will acquire knowledge and skills in the field of artistic creation, production and critical reflection of cultural and artistic role in the society. The study programme is designed in an extremely interdisciplinary way both in terms of understanding and development of artistic production and theoretical and historical assumptions that condition this production. The study programme combines the basic contents of selected artistic genres into a complete whole of knowledge, thereby providing an understanding of the media bearer of artistic expression, the neighbourhood connection, and the possibility of transcending the related artistic and cultural code as a result of the historical development of individual artistic practices.

The objective of the study programme is to educate and train the student

  • understanding and interpretation of the artistic process (concept-creation-production-engagement-operation) in the field of visual arts;
  • critical judgement of socio-political phenomena and manifestations of cultural-artistic code;
  • professional and independent work in performing the advanced artistic and shape-creating projects;
  • articulation and re-creation of artistic experience acquired through studio, theoretical, and professional work;
  • use of technologies and paradigms linked to contemporary artistic practices

The graduate’s general competences:

 In the framework of the study programme the students will develop the following general competences:

  • the ability of interdisciplinary thinking and analytical-synthetic integration in shaping modern mental and artistic approaches;
  • the ability of articulating and transferring artistic code into the social-cultural environment;
  • the ability of transferring artistic-theoretical principles into cultural and creative industries;
  • the ability of independent and group operation in the professional-artistic field;
  • technical and professional training for the use of bearers and media for achieving top-notch artistic creativity; 
  • the ability of planning, organizing, and performing the advanced artistic production.

The graduate’s subject specific competences:

In the framework of the study programme the students will develop the following subject-specific competences:

  • understanding the artistic phenomenon and of artistic experience;
  • the ability to articulate and transfer artistic experience, expression, and creativity through artistic means of expression;
  • the ability to identify and master the basic skills of visual production, visual expression, and autonomous reflection;
  • the ability to conceptualise and contextualise artistic creations, manifestations;
  • the ability to integrate artistic practice and artistic contextualisation,
  • the ability to present one’s own artistic artefact or one’s own shape-creational representation;
  • knowledge and understanding of the development of visual arts from a historical and theoretical point of view.

Enrolment conditions and selection criteria in case of limited enrolment:

The candidates can enrol into the first year of the study programme who

  • have passed the general matura exam;
  • have passed the professional matura exam in any of the secondary education programmes and the examination in one of the following subjects of the general matura: history of arts, arts theory, history, philosophy, psychology, sociology, or computer sciences – the selected subject cannot be one already passed in the framework of professional matura;
  • prior to 1 June 1995 concluded any four-year secondary education programme.

A test of giftedness is mandatory. Internal regulation is in preparation, which will determine the content, course, and duration of the test of giftedness, as well as the criteria for assessing the candidate’s ability to enrol in artistic study programmes.

If the decision is adopted to limit enrolment, the candidates from points a) and c) will be selected according to:

  • the success at the test of giftedness: 90 % points
  • overall success at the general matura or final exam: 5 % points
  • overall success  in the 3rd and 4th year of secondary school: 5% points.

The candidates from point b) will be selected according to:

  • the success at the test of giftedness: 90 % points
  • overall success at the professional matura: 4 % points
  • overall success  in the 3rd and 4th year of secondary school: 3 % points
  • success at the examination in the subject of the matura:  3 % points.

Conditions for progressing in the study programme and concluding the studies

To be able to progress into year two of the first cycle study programme Primary School Teaching the student must have accumulated 54 CP (90 % CP) of the 60 CP in year one of the study programme. In exceptional cases the Commission for Study Affairs can, based on a substantiated request addressed to the Commission, also grant progression into year two with 48 CP accumulated. The remaining requirements must be satisfied before enrolment into year three.

In addition to all requirements of year one the condition for enrolment into year three is the student has accumulated 54 CP of the 60 CP in year two of the study programme. In exceptional cases the Commission for Study Affairs of the UP PEF can, based on a substantiated request addressed to the Commission, also grant progression into year three with 48 CP accumulated. The remaining requirements must be satisfied before enrolment into year four.

In addition to all requirements of years one and two the condition for enrolment into year four is the student has accumulated 54 CP of the 60 CP in year three of the study programme. In exceptional cases the Commission for Study Affairs of the UP PEF can, based on a substantiated request addressed to the Commission, also grant progression into year four with 48 CP accumulated. The remaining requirements must be satisfied before defending the graduation thesis.

At enrolling into year four the student can register the theme of the graduation thesis or submit request for approval of the graduation thesis theme. 

A study year can be repeated in case the student has accumulated at least half, i.e. 30 CP of the study year enrolled to. The Commission for Study Affairs can also grant repeating a study year to a student who from justified reasons has accumulated less than the required number of CP.

The student concludes the studies when she or he has satisfied all the requirements defined by the study programme and defended the graduation thesis.
